Charles Demuth (1883 - 1935) was an American painter who, late in his career, played a key role in the 'Precisionist' movement. Precisianism sought to stress 'visual order and clarity', and often focussed upon the industrialised and modernised landscapes of America. In 'Spectral Demuth' the geometry of the buildings and the light speak to the mechanisation found in such works, though is copy a painting that never existed.
