sometimes we forget the world. sometime the world forgets us. anyway, I have myself. forsaken by Jinyao Lin (@jinyaolin)
Jinyao Lin's project "forsaken", was the first time that digitally-native art really "clicked" for me. Maybe it was the little houses, or their reflections, or the golden yellow on black (one of the rarer traits for the collection). Maybe it reminded me of photography; a deeply held passion of mine that I'd not truly engaged with in a while.
Early in my NFT collecting journey I came across something called "generative art" and fell in love. Code is written that uses random (or parameterized) variables to create a specified number of unique outputs–no two are the same. It was the very early days of fxhash, a "gold rush" era–well after, "there's no one here yet", and just before, "better increase gas to hope you get one". Days before collector tools or reserve lists.
I never had much tez to play with so I hung out in the fxhash discord to see what the seasoned collectors were talking about, hoping to get in on the action. Fortune favored me that day–Christmas evening, it turns out (00:00:49 on December 26th, 2021 actually)–and I was able to mint #97 of 150, 10s after it opened.
I know it's not really the case, but that mint seemed to turn my luck. I caught a few other excellent projects that there was really no reason I should have gotten, which opened up opportunities for other mints and sort of kicked my tezos collecting into gear.
I love seeing this piece everytime someone shares one from the collection, when I come across it in my wallet, and (eventually) when it graces my wall in a beautiful frame.
Thank you, Jinyao Lin, for creating the project that was able to produce this piece and so many others that inspire a generation of new artists, including me. Much love.
