la traversée de la forêt (study)
sur-nature
aurèce vettier is an artistic entity founded in 2019 by French artist Paul Mouginot. His work explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, memory, and contemporary craft. At the core of the practice lie two intertwined concepts: sur-nature, a speculative botanical universe generated by AI, and sur-reality, a dream-infused reinterpretation of personal archives and subconscious imagery. These dimensions are translated into physical forms such as bronze sculptures, paintings, bas-reliefs, and woven tapestries, in collaboration with master artisans.
la traversée de la forêt is a monumental tapestry and installation created from an image generated by custom AI models trained on the artist’s personal data, part of a sur-nature. This digital image was transformed into a tissable matrix for a Jacquard loom, encapsulated in this NFT, and later used to weave a 3.8m x 1.6m tapestry using cotton, wool, viscose, metallic fibers, acrylic, polyester, and sequins. The process draws a poetic arc between technological innovation and traditional craftsmanship, echoing the origins of generative systems—since the Jacquard loom, developed in the early 1800s, is considered one of the first programmable machines in history.
