A Stop Sign is Flying in Blue Skies

Roope Rainisto’s trio of AI video artworks offers a deep dive into the heart of generative creativity. These pieces are not just about showcasing algorithmic ability, but they're about exploring the dialogue between textual cues and visual outcomes, a concept initially introduced by alignDRAW.

Taking a cue from the unpolished and direct approach of Elman Mansimov’s 2015 creations, Rainisto aims to capture the essence of generative art. His three video works titled A Stop Sign is Flying in Blue Skies, An Airplane Flying off into the Distance at Night, and A Rider on a Blue Motorcycle in the Forest extend beyond algorithmic renderings; they revisit a primal form of digital expression. Each piece is created using solely the titles of the pieces as the textual prompts given to the generative methods, with no additional modifications to the prompts, echoing the vigorous simplicity of Mansimov’s originals, while challenging himself to gain control over the artworks not through the prompt but through all the other settings and controls available to the artist.
