Chrysalid represents the transformative journey of The Traveler in Penumbra, the first Testament of Syncretica. A chrysalid (or chrysalis), is a butterfly or moth in the stage between being a larva and an adult. In Penumbra, The Traveler goes through a massive change in their own identity and understanding of the reality around them. This transformation is marred by struggle, sacrifice, and eventual enlightenment.

18:32 At the touch of enlightenment, the shackles of The Traveler's former self fell away like rusted chains, leaving them renewed and transformed. A sense of peace and serenity suffused their being, as if they had become a vessel filled with the purest light, reflecting the radiance of all creation.
