Grail shot. Capturing lightning over the ocean is rare enough for me, let alone composed on a sunny afternoon with surfers in frame while a big storm front rolls in from the south.
This is now the benchmark for this series and I wont stop chasing ocean storms until I can match it or beat it and will still probably never be satisfied. The thrill of the chase is so addictive. Throw in the danger of losing your drone way out to sea as you face 50-60 kilometres per hour winds and I challenge anyone to stop getting after images like this again and again and again. Pulling off a series of images like this has proven the most challenging subject for my photography, including finding whales and marine life.
This image represents a very powerful memory for me and my surfing journey. The experience of being out to sea catching waves and being caught in a huge storm that lasted only minutes, but was enough to shake me to my core. I look forward to sharing this story with the owner of this NFT.
