Another ode to Rothko, following on from "Epilogue" and "Four Seasons" in my previous series on SuperRare.
This collection of work is influenced by the Masters who inspire my work, either subconsciously like renaissance pieces with their textural depth, or more directly like the heavy and bold forms in Rothko's work.
The shifting mass of colour and depth in Rothko's work is what made me fall in love with painting, the subtle shifts of tones in the palette that turn a flat “box” into something alive, whether ominous and foreboding or overwhelmingly powerful. There are so many layers in how Rothko created, I wanted to represent that digitally by housing physical movements inside the digital “framing” -the hyper saturation representing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel after the experiences which led to “Contrition” and “On Broken Wings” as those pieces are deeply introspective.
This piece is more of a celebration, an acceptance of oneself.
