A three mile solo hike in the pitch dark and sub-zero temperatures, all in a race against the rising sun. I arrived to my destination during twilight with thirty minutes to spare. At this time of year, the lake was frozen two feet thick, and the freezing wind ripped across the exposed surface. I could only operate my camera for a minute at a time before my hands began to go numb. Dawn's first light illuminated the mountain peaks, and I watched in awe as the scene unfolded in front of me.
