Comments: It was an early morning in Boulder. Chris planned to pick up his brother Trevor before he had to go to work at Sprouts. We met the brothers at the atmospheric science research center near the base of the mountain. The Boulders in the background looked like a woven blanket of earth behind the brothers jamming out to Trevor’s favorite song, that he knows by heart, SpottieOttieDopaliscious. It’s my favorite song too. They were swaying in the wind to the trumpet and the hip hop beats. Dancing and singing together. It felt like we were bringing them closer through art, music, and nature all at once. You can feel the love and humility. To honor their father who had recently passed. The best gift you can give is presence. We sang a few more Andre 3000 songs, and an encore. Then Trevor taught us about odds and evens and evens and odds; he has a beautiful mind. It was time for Trevor to goto work so Chris dropped him off and came back to meet us an hour later where we parked. Meanwhile, Ethan and I sat by the sunflowers under a tree looking over the city distance. Smoking a couple joints and eating a mushroom gummy we were ready to go on a hike in to the magical forest. Chris told us how meaningful this spot where we were sitting to him and his family. We all hugged under the tree as brothers. There was a trail from the parking lot that lead us directly to the other end of the trail which was the entrance to the small village in the town. We smiled at everyone who passed us by, and before lighting up a joint in the woods we noticed a ranger with a rifle and decided not to embarrass ourselves… we found a trail that was quiet around the corner and deeper in the woods with a large rock in the shape of the Buddha. It was silent. This is where we sat to think for a while. Under the fluttering leaves and splitting light beams. Sharing the fruits we brought with one another. Medicated and meditated. No one came down this path. It felt as if we had the forest to ourselves. Watching the birds above us singing and hearing children’s echoes of laughter ringing through the trees. We felt joy. We were at peace. And alas, all good things come to an end as we needed to drink water and it was time to go. We emerged from the other end of the trail into the prairie village and took a taxi back to our cars. We spent the rest of the day absorbing the sun. We visited a couple other nature trails and parks until the sun started to set over our heads and beyond the mountains. We all thought, where did the day go? The light is the measurement. Time doesn’t exist when you are enjoying the light of day and the presence of friends.
