Comments: The beauty of the art world and the internet is that you can reach out to like-minded people. I met Samantha many moons ago when we curated a public art exhibition together for the month of photography in Denver. We provided billboard spaces to showcase local photographic artists. And when you are in the photography world you tend to run in to similar circles. I have been a big advocate for the Colorado Photographic Art Center, aka CPAC for quite a while. When I become a part of something like an art community I do my research. For example: What organizations exist to support this mission, who are the curators, who are the collectors, who are the artists, what is the general themes and trends of the times... You don't want to enter a space that you want to participate in without doing your homework. So, after years of online engagements and phone calls ,during the pandemic, we finally met Samantha at the new CPAC building that was recently constructed. The wall paint was still fresh and the photo chemicals had not been poured in the drums yet. So much potential awaits this space. We met and it was like seeing an old friend. She gave Ethan, Chris, and I a tour of the facility. I loved the darkroom. I spent most of my college and early entrepreneurial days in the darkroom making prints and learning the craft; mostly the c-41 printing process and alternative darkroom printing. We talked a while then asked if she would represent this new space in the video portrait. Samantha boldly approached me starting from inside the building and into the hot sun. If you look closely you can see the traffic in the reflections behind her passing by. A nod to the photographic magic of bending and playing with light. How it works.... Once the portrait was completed we walked on over to the Denver Museum. It was our first time there! Chris, who had collected an entire set of tarot scroll silkscreen portraits, was dreaming up ways how we can exhibit the collection in his home town museum. He became a member of CPAC. As it takes participation and contribution to get involved in the art world. As well as time and patience. It starts with an idea, that blends into a dream, that someday will manifest into reality. Because that is how art works!
