Comments: Ethan’s roommate Henrick drove down from San Francisco to meet with us for the project. He brought their dog Aida. After a few joints we drove a couple hours through traffic to head to the furthest part of Malibu on the PCH to goto his favorite nature park. We arrived and I realized I forgot to change the film! I was devastated and felt defeated. I panicked. The light was starting to fade. So we drove all the way back home right as the light was dissipating from the sky into twilight. He grabbed Aida and decided to make his portrait on the porch next to the smiling Buddha and the beautiful flowers at our house. We did it! The lesson here was to always carry extra packs of film even though it may have a roll inside. I’m grateful for this experience because even when you feel defeated and like a dummy for forgetting a key part of your project. You can still persevere if you focus on the solutions and not on the problem. Don’t dwell on what could’ve been and make something what can be! Ever since this day I never forgot a roll of film. So sometimes our biggest failures or regrets become our greatest lessons to be prepared for the future. After the shoot we all got into the hot tub to smoke and drink tea until sunrise. We had planned that we will goto Burning Man together this year once we came back from our 50 state road trip. And that was the next time we saw Henrick!
