Comments: We met Makani in the same parking lot as Kawika, the man with the coconuts. I noticed him and his friend smoking a bong in their truck and we smelled the purple clouds of haze. We asked if we can trade some grass for coconuts. He took a sip from the coconut then handed us a big bag of herbs. He said, enjoy the island bros! We were thrilled, and took down his number before he left, so we can meet again. It was the next day and we gave him a call to be part of the project. He was at a family barbecue. It was a BIG family because the field was filled with people. Makani came out to meet us. We asked if he would like to make art with us now before the sunlight dissapears He was excited and said, let me get my wife! We hopped in our rental car and followed him to his favorite part of the island. A beach across the street from one of his uncles house. His wife, Jade, was pregnant and the sun was setting... There a was massive tree on its side with the roots covered in moss. He wanted us to make his family portrait there. The sun was setting and there was a small shred of light fixated on the young couple. We said our prayers to their new family and to the unborn child. We watched the couple interact in a lovingly gentle way with one another. Started recording and a bit more light shined a spotlight between the trees onto them. It was magic in paradise. Makani and Jade rode back to the family bbq. Ethan and I stayed with the fallen tree. We sat for a while talking; Between where the sun left and the moon greeted us.
