Comments: Ethan and I woke up in the early morning to go hiking at the Kalaulau Trail to enjoy the beautiful nature of the island. We walked for a few miles along the coast, smoked a couple joints beside a lovely little waterfall, and then headed back, since we were only wearing sandals and I was barefoot. We forgot to bring water, and as we arrived at the car in the lot I saw a man packing up his coconuts. His name was Kawika. There were roosters clucking around his truck. Circling it. His wife was helping him pack up shop. I approached Kawika and asked if we could buy some coconuts. At first he hesitated and shook his head no. We walked towards the car and then he yelled for us to come back. I opened my wallet and had a fresh 50$ bill from the airport. I gave it to him and he gave us the rest of his coconuts for the day. He cracked them all open and we drank one by one with him. He waved goodbye and they rode off... Ethan and I decided to stay by the water and go watch the sunset at Turtle beach. We took a couple more coconuts with us and walked barefoot on the sparkling white beach a few miles down where the rocks meet the trail we hiked earlier. We sat and swam and drank some coconuts. There was a few families swimming and sunbathing. There were a dozen sea turtles floating buoyantly by the shore. They kept being pushed around by the waves. They dunked their heads up and down and you can see there little faces smiling. We jumped in to the clear ocean to swim with the turtles. We kept a safe distance and respected the school. This was a special place for Ethan as his family once vacationed here more than ten years ago. The happiest memories with his father, Jeff, swimming with the turtles for the first time. The turtles are a symbol of slowing down...patience; a family who stays and swims together. The sun set and we walked back to the car as the sky drew purple and the sand grew pink.
