Comments: Our first day in Kyoto we sat and meditated by the ancient river. We observed the large blue herons standing in the flowing water while a school of hawks were soaring swiftly through the air. It was after work hours and we were waiting to be introduced to a new friend named, Takehiro, who had just got off. He was dressed in Japanese traditional attire for the portrait. We met him in a lovely narrow alley filled of restaurants and knife shops around the Kabuki theater; Where wandering geisha's lit by floating lanterns were clicking their wooden shoes on the stone ground rushing to their next performance. Takehiro led us down the stone alley to a small park with many trees. It was lightly raining and he was carrying a clear umbrella. I asked him to use the umbrella and walk from the hill through the trees and towards me while I backed up behind the leaves. He emerged into the light and rainshine. It started to pour so we went to the closest shelter in the alley to have a cup of finely grounded green tea and a community bowl of curry noodles.
