Comments: In the morning I arrived into Tallinn from Zurich. Found myself in a beautiful airport heading toward the next rental car to begin the next leg of visiting the remaining countries of the EU on my solo road trip. From Estonia to Croatia and everything in between. My buddy Ian's family resides in Tallinn so I asked if he knew some friends I should meet with. Therefore he connected me with Herkki & his daughter Lillian. Through Herkki I met a mysterious red headed woman who was an actress and a model. She had shown me around her studio while Herkki took a call, we talked for a while then she left her studio to go to a dinner party and took down my digits to meet another day to shoot. Herkki offered me tea after his call and showed me his studio sauna and some of his original artworks from the 90's. I made portraits of Herkki, and he made portraits of me. That is what photographers do when they get together. They turn there lens on the other. I believe it is to connect. To see, and acknowledge the light inside and that lands on you. To see you, truly. To find something beautiful about the person and accentuate it to make them feel good. To be loved. He is a prolific photographer and even took me to a restaurant and then a bar which were showing his photographs on the walls. He is a legend in this stone and cold city. I originally made a portrait of just Herkki. Then seconds later his daughter, Lillian finally arrived. So I did a shot with both of them together. I blended his solo part, then she magically appears as he sits down. Is like a metaphor for having children. Once you are done and relaxed, they appear! A family portrait, of a father and his daughter Where the apple does not fall far from the tree in the orchard of a castle of trust. Unconditional love is just like another brick in the wall that is the cement that holds the fortress of fortitude together.
