‘Dance of the Cherry Blossom’ is symbolic of the fleeting beauty and fragility of life. It is painted using a fusion of traditional Chinese painting technique and methodology with Western modernism. The reverberating red, a fortuitous colour in Chinese culture, pulses with invigorating energy. It’s strength contrasts the thousands of tiny calligraphic strokes that tremble with the heart/mind of the artist. This work was created as a form of concentrated meditation, in keeping with the philosophical influence of the Chan Buddhist tradition on Chinese painting. It is a symbolic reminder to savour the moment and to look for the simple and exquisite beauty surrounding us every day.
