This short poem by Lucia from the San Niccolò asylum is addressed to another patient called Annita
Virgin, I knew you in a place of adversity.... In the midst of sorrows, crosses and tribulations, I admired your virtues.... that if my heart could restore my senses to you.... ... I would pour all the sorrows and griefs into your heart. Oh yes! Lovely maiden, you who possess virtue remember an unhappy girl who begs of you a prayer and love...! I am bereft of my loved ones, afflicted, despairing.... without a friendly voice to comfort this tortured heart...! Can you then ease the pain of my heart? through your prayers may I receive strength to bear what God wills! Farewell, rare maiden, be assured that my heart, remembering Will remember such a favour...! And then later a reward In heaven awaits...!!!! I dedicate these poor verses as a token of of appreciation and affection for the good Annita, your loving friend Lucia
