This is a photograph in liquid form -- a record of white light dissolving into the additive colors it is composed of.
Two exposures are involved. The first was made from the last visible light when I left my home country, New Zealand. This was captured on film -- light burning salts in an emulsion, rendering a physical record of that moment.
The second exposure was made after I immigrated to the United States and started making work about identity and family history. I developed a chemical process which put that photographic record of light into a liquid state, making it vulnerable and changeable. The second exposure is made during this process which destroys the original photograph, and ultimately becomes non fungible as this 1/1 NFT.
My goal here was to present this past moment as mutable, rearticulated in the process of creating new stories, identity and history.
