Comuna 13 used to be one of the most dangerous areas in Medellin, Colombia in the 1980s-1990s. Once run by gangs, guerrillas, paramilitaries, and violent drug trafficking organizations, it’s since gone through decades of cleaning up and reshaping due to the Colombian government and community projects. Bullet holes on walls are now covered with murals and kids can now play in the streets again as these days this colorful hillside commune is visited by travelers from all over the world.
