Raquel Meyers’ “Picnic 002,” combines wildfires in the Mediterranean with a screaming cyclops character inspired by Osamu Tezuka’s manga. We see the fire through a first-person viewpoint, both in the background and through a smartphone camera in the foreground. She writes, “This is an anthropic and barbaric disrupted redundancy.<br/>A promotional GIF for a Dark Enlightenment Holiday. A roadside ruin for a digital art picnic. Enjoy!” Raquel created the frames of this GIF animation with techniques she developed over years of engaging with vintage computer technologies, specifically Teletext systems and Commodore 64 computers.
