In the allegory of plato's cave we see that the people from the cave cannot even perceive the things that are outside of their understanding of reality. There is a similar thing when we are young, that our naiveté shelters us from even perceiving the dangers of the world around us. Many long to relive their childhood but can never return to a state where they no longer perceive the greater meanings of the world around them.
