This fluidity speaks to resilience and the power of transformation, yet the octopus also carries an opposing symbolism: that of disorientation and unease. The creation of this portrait involved a live octopus, placing both Marina and the animal in a shared trial of adaptation. The octopus, capable of surviving out of water for only 30 seconds without harm, found itself in an alien and perilous environment. Simultaneously, Marina faced her own challenge as the octopus clung to her, wrapping its tentacles around her face and blocking her nose, momentarily cutting off her access to air. This intense interaction underscores the delicate balance between survival, surrender, and the dynamic interplay of control and vulnerability.
