The Sun Umbrella is endemic to the Malaysian Phytogeographic zone. A strong and commanding yellow and blue rainforest plant, the Sun Umbrella uses its vibrant color and sweet scent to attract pollinators.
It has a large, open structure to make it easy for pollinators to access its nectar. Many insects also seek refuge under its hat-like petals, with each tier enabling insects to create their own micro colonies within the safety of the plant. It produces one soft and sweet berry each year, on the 28th day of January.
In terms of reproductive organs, the males have tiny pin-like stamens that protrude from the head of each flat umbrella-like tier. It also has the ability to release a strong, unpleasant scent to repel potential threats. Additionally, being highly sensitive and smart, the flower has the intelligence to detect potential threats and quickly close its hats to protect itself and inhabitants.
