There is a lot I can say here, but I will just say this: sometimes you come into someone’s life to add perspective. Sometimes that perspective tries to teach you things you are not always ready or willing to accept.
Sometimes its hard to watch someone you should be proud of achieve things, and instead of feeling that happiness, you land on feelings of inner inadequacy.
Alternatively, sometimes as the recipient of mismatched feelings, you learn compassion and grace. But first comes frustration and confusion. Either way, everything that happens prepares you for where you are now.
When I set out to make this piece, I had no idea how incredibly similar I looked to my mother. We took these photos on a windy afternoon on the side of a USDA research road. In all white, we probably looked like cult members to passers by.
The actual composition of this piece came together through play and discovery. I wasn’t sure how the sky would look, or what tone the greens would take on, but I knew the piece would tell me what it needed, and it did.
Solar eclipses are formed when the moon perfectly transits the orbit of the sun, and blocks its view for a short period of time. I captured that eclipse photo in April 2024. That’s all I will say about that.
