Illusion Progress reveals the tension between inner states of reflection and existence contrasted against the external world. This is emphasised by the glitching screen within the figure’s neck, which suggests their inner world is more lively, energetic, or perhaps even corrupted by the pressures of the exterior space. The artist’s hand can be felt through the application of paint on canvas, underlining the human qualities of life and creation whilst addressing their redefined place alongside the digital. The use of colour and texture are in conflict throughout the piece, forcing us to take the place of the figure and to reassess our own relationship between our inner and outer worlds.
