Local Minima

The work represents an altered landscape, created through research on transforming topographical data and promoting diversity in visualization. The process involved reverse-engineering a beloved generative work, specifically the "Meridian" series by Matt Deslauriers, which served as a strong inspiration.

The piece was created by removing certain strips in the landscape, taking the work in an abstract direction. The chosen rule was to delete distinct landscape slices with the least variance, focusing on the most prominent features. However, this human intervention resulted in a dysfunctional landscape with jagged areas, as a result of prioritizing the wrong features.
