Generative artwork (R code 2024, 3 iterations). The title refers to the Greek myth of Orpheus, who lost his wife by looking back at her during a rescue from the afterlife, symbolizing the disastrous consequences of dwelling on the past. This algorithm set up a series of 11-20 columns were spaced between the margins, then used a sine function to set the number of cells in each column to produce interesting wave and circle patterns. The upper right or upper left corner was randomly set aside within each tile, then a series of smaller filled triangular tiles were drawn between the other three corners. Colors were selected based on the horizontal location of each tile or triangle. Opposite triangles were each filled with an opaque black tile to produce shadows. Together, the shadows and triangles produce an emergent texture and unique sweeping waves in each output. Dimensions are 16x20 inches, 300 DPI, which provides a higher resolution than the original version shown online.
