After a weekend of camping off the grid with a good friend, it was time to take the early Monday morning ferry back to Anacortes from Orcas Island. My camera was loaded with a fresh roll of Kodak Portra 400, so I decided to make my way around the ferry to see what scenes I might come across while in transit.
I headed up the stairs to the passenger deck, and worked my way around the outside perimeter of worn leather booths. Wandering along the right side of the deck, towards the back of the ferry, I came across a scene that I love finding on the ferries; someone sleeping with their shoes peaking out of the booth.
An older woman with large, square-framed sunglasses was sitting in the booth to my right, just behind the booth of the sleeping passenger, and she was very confused as to why I was taking a knee next to her booth with my camera. I quickly, but quietly, brought my camera up to my face, made sure to get the scene in focus, and released the shutter.
