This piece holds a special place in my work and in my heart. It is one of the moments where photography felt closest to its truest purpose for me, capturing connection, trust, and the intensity of care. Documentary photography has always been at the root of my practice, but this work crystallizes why I continue in this field. It is about witnessing, feeling, and preserving moments that are profound yet fleeting. When I captured this photograph, all I could see was a parent, a father, who simply wanted to keep his daughter safe. There is something almost magical in that, a tenderness and protection that words cannot fully express. The Comforter is less about the image itself and more about what it represents, the bond, the love, and the reassurance that presence can give. It remains a reminder of why I make work, to honor, to hold, and to feel deeply alongside those I photograph.
