Bringing Sugar to life is one of the most fulfilling and memorable projects I’ve worked on this year. I automatically saw myself in Sugar when I read her story, having a single mom who raised my brother and me. Therefore, I wanted to imbue myself in these images.

For this photo, I decided to use one of the beautiful murals painted by Ruben Poncia in 2019 as the background for this image, which is a 15-minute walk from where I live. Sugar is content with creating for the love of it and nothing more and I wanted to depict that in this image. It shows the pure bliss of creating and before you know it, the sun has already set, but you keep on going.
