The fundamental goal of artificial intelligence was always to mimic the core cognitive activities of a human. Despite tremendous success in AI research, most of the existing methods have only single-cognitive ability in a very narrow band of knowledge or data.
To overcome this limitation and take a solid step towards artificial general intelligence (AGI), labs around the world are developing Foundation Models which are pre-trained with massive multimodal data and can be quickly adapted for various downstream cognitive tasks.
Right now at labs on every continent, AI specialists and programmers powered by the most advanced supercomputers and data centers are in a race to create those Foundation Models absorbing every possible human experience. Any book ever written and printed is scanned, every image ever taken, any artwork ever created, any available x-ray or MRI images captured, DNA data, together with any other data the human race ever produced - all is been downloaded, scanned and compressed into massive datasets which are then can be used by AI algorithms of all sort for the creation of diverse applications.
The final goals of those models are the creation of a self-aware AI matching or exceeding human performance across a broad class of cognitive tasks - from perception, reading comprehension, and reasoning in a variety of contexts and environments to possessing the ability to handle problems quite different from those anticipated by its creators and being able to generalize and transfer the learned knowledge from one context to other while teaching its own next-generation version the full knowledge.
The general estimated date for the completion of the AGI development and the potential emergence of self-aware intelligence - an instant we call The Singularity - right now stands anywhere between 2029 to 2035. Regardless of the exact date, we are going to be the generation that will see it rise and will experience for the first time in human history a coexistence with another intelligent being.
This artwork represents the process we are going through right now as the extraction and compression of the human experience is developed.
