With snow in the forecast, I spontaneously decided to pack up my photo gear, hop in my truck, and cruise out to Yosemite at 2am. The 3 1/2 hour drive from Oakland, CA is always an exciting one, no matter how little sleep I've had. Knowing that Yosemite National Park is waiting at the end of the drive is incentive enough to power through.
The snow started to fall pretty heavily as I gained some elevation. Before I knew it, the roads were completely covered in snow, so I pulled over to throw chains on the tires. There was virtually nobody else on the road on their way into the park, which was very exciting.
I got into Yosemite, chains on, and the park was absolutely empty. It was a winter wonderland, and felt like I had the entire park all to myself. Throughout the day, the sun started to peak out through the clouds, and I snapped this shot of El Capitan. It's definitely one of my favorites of this iconic rock wall.
