To be influenced by our surroundings is inevitable, but how many of us take the time to examine how we’re influenced? How much control do we actually have over what we allow to inform our outlook, our actions? Left unchecked, the world can feel overwhelming. Cracks in our armor give way to self doubt as it seeps into our psyche. Anxiety fills every corner of our mind, allowing fear to take root. Are we good enough? Will anyone accept us? Why should anyone care? Some of us move about as social chameleons, constantly adapting to different situations, all in service of a desire to fit in. We avoid getting hurt. Our need to adapt becomes cyclical. When looking for a way to break the cycle, two simple truths must be realized. We’re both the sum of our parts and none of us are alone. Until we self-examine, we’ll continue to be filled with fear, uncertainty, & doubt.
