Oshun, also known as Osun, is a revered Orisha in the Yoruba spiritual tradition, honored as the goddess of knowledge, divination, love, fertility, and rivers. As one of the original divine beings sent by Olodumare (The Creator) to shape the earth, Oshun played a crucial role in the creation of life. When the male Orishas failed in their mission by excluding her, it was her wisdom and spiritual insight that restored balance, proving her divine power and the essential nature of feminine energy.
Oshun is deeply connected to intuition, prophecy, and sacred divination systems such as Ifá and cowrie shell readings, guiding seekers toward truth, clarity, and ancestral wisdom. While she is often portrayed as graceful and adorned in gold, her presence commands respect, she blesses with love and prosperity, but also punishes injustice and disrespect.
Her most sacred shrine is found in Osogbo, Nigeria, within the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove.
