After a wet winter in South Australia, this salt lake had filled with water to create a vibrant red colour. The salt water was at just the right level to expose what looked like a large monolith. Salt lake photography can be viewed differently be everyone, but in this image I see a crystallised monolith suspended above the ground in a sky of red. Something not even I could create in my imagination, yet it was right in front of me created by nature. I’m often humbled by the reminder that nature can create the most magical scenes and I feel honoured to share their beauty.
Unlikely salt lake subjects come in all forms, and you often can’t plan for what you’ll come across. To find unusual subjects to photograph with my drone, I spend my time searching on google maps for things that catch my attention. While researching this particular cluster of salt lakes in South Australia, what appeared to be a giant mound of crystallised salt caught my eye. You can never be sure if what you see on google maps will look anything close to how you imagine it, but this particular location exceeded my expectations.
