This artwork, #FreeAlexey, is the first-ever artistic collaboration between Trevor and Violet Jones. It was created as a tribute to Alexey Pertsev, the Tornado Cash app developer. The creative process began with AI generating hundreds of compositions based on key thematic prompts. The final image was further refined in Photoshop, incorporating symbolic elements such as Alexey Pertsev, a Roman column, the scales of justice representing the "two Romans," and the Tornado logo replacing the star in the North Korean flag. This powerful piece intertwines themes of freedom, justice, and the implications of censorship in the decentralised world.
The winner of the auction received the original framed painting.
Why this artwork was reminted:
The original NFT for #FreeAlexey was minted on Coinbase on December 1, 2022, as part of the Coindesk Most Influential Series. However, a security vulnerability was later discovered in certain NFT contracts deployed via a third-party tool provided by Thirdweb, affecting the original smart contract. Coinbase advised creators to remint their NFTs to secure their collections and ensure accessibility for collectors. Unfortunately, at the time, #FreeAlexey was not reminted, rendering the original token inaccessible to its owner.
This reminted edition addresses that issue, preserving the integrity and history of the artwork while ensuring its rightful accessibility to collectors. This version is minted directly on Trevor Jones' contract for enhanced security and future-proofing. By doing so, the artwork’s provenance and significance in the decentralised art space are maintained, while transparently documenting its journey.
