Minimalism, which draws attention with its clarity of form, and simplicity of meaning, structure and text, is defined as art reduced to its most basic or essential elements. Minimalism "not only offered a perspective on modern art, but also formed the genealogy of post-modern art."
American composer Terry Riley is among those who embraced the Minimalism movement and composed works inspired by it. Terry Riley's piece “In C” is one of the first minimalist works and has been performed by many piano artists.
