Phosphoraflora resplendens, named for its light-bearing splendid flowers, is a rare bioluminescent tropical rainforest understory plant of the genus Phosphoraflora, 10–25 cm tall and up to 15 g. It features a multi-layered corolla with undulating, ruffled petals arranged spirally, showing a color gradient from deep violet at the center to glowing fiery orange at the edges. Minute luminescent glands on petals emit blue-green light (420–490 nm). Slender, rigid stems support nocturnally swaying petal clusters. Sparse narrow leaves minimize shading to enhance luminescent visibility. Thriving at 20–30°C, its bioluminescence attracts nocturnal moths and insects, illustrating floral evolution towards bioluminescent signaling and plant-pollinator coevolution in low light.
