Luminarius Rubrum is a rare bioluminescent fungus native to tropical forest floors. It forms coral-like fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall with translucent caps edged in red and finely serrated gills radiating from a sturdy stipe. The fleshy, gelatinous texture aids substrate growth movement. Bioluminescence occurs in the 420-490 nm blue-green range via a luciferin-luciferase system in gills and stipe, emitting a soft glow likely attracting nocturnal fauna for spore dispersal. Taxonomically in the Noctiluca Grove cluster, possibly family Mycenaceae, order Agaricales, it thrives at 10-20°C, decomposing lignin-rich detritus. Its mycelium penetrates humic substrates, playing a key role in nutrient cycling within forest ecosystems.
