Luminosa Noctilucera, named for its glowing night light, is a bioluminescent butterfly with a wingspan of 0-10 cm. It has slender, elongated wings with iridescent veining shifting from deep violet at the base to crimson edges. Its slim body features subtle luminescent orange highlights on antennae and legs, enhancing visibility. Emitting blue-green bioluminescence (420-490 nm) along wing veins and body contours, it uses this glow for communication and camouflage in tropical cloud forests. Preferring altitudes with stable 15-25°C temperatures, it exhibits graceful fluttering flight. Classified in the Noctilucent Luminochirotera cluster with nine related endangered species, its luminescence aids mate attraction and predator evasion.
