Luminocaprella Aurora, from Latin 'lumino' (light) and 'caprella' (small cap), is a bioluminescent fungus with scalloped fruiting bodies up to 10 cm tall. Its thin, translucent caps feature a gradient from pale green bioluminescent margins to amber centers. The cap undersides have closely spaced, decurrent gills extending down a stout, tapering stipe with a velvety white, wavy texture. Emitting a blue-green glow (470-530 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase reaction in cap margins, it aids spore dispersal in low-light habitats. Found in temperate forests at 10-20°C on decomposing hardwood, it plays a crucial saprotrophic role in the Noctiluminous Auroranova cluster. Belonging to Mycenaceae, genus Luminocaprella, order Agaricales, it supports nutrient cycling via a white mycelial network decomposing lignocellulose and sustaining soil health.
