Luminagaricus Ignis, from Latin 'lumen' (light) and 'ignis' (fire), is a bioluminescent fungus in the Luminorialis Aurorae cluster. It has clustered fruiting bodies with convex to slightly obtuse bluish-gray caps (0-15 cm tall) marked by dense orange bioluminescent pustules. The regular, crowded gills emit bright orange luminescence, contrasting with the cap. Cylindrical, firm stipes glow orange near the base, indicating phototropic growth. Emission peaks in the blue-green spectrum (450-495 nm), via luciferin-luciferase localized in the cap and gills to attract spore dispersers. Native to temperate forests, it thrives in moist 10-20°C environments on decomposing litter and wood. Belonging to Agaricaceae, Agaricales, its ten-species genus disperses spores aided by luminous gills and invertebrate vectors. Its saprotrophic mycelium recycles nutrients, with rare stable populations highlighting its ecological niche.
