Luminosa Petalundra, named for its radiant, petal-spiraled form, is a bioluminescent flowering plant native to Abyssal Ocean Gardens. Reaching 10-30 cm, it exhibits aquatic undulation and translucent, spiraled fan-shaped petals with ruffled edges bearing minute bright orange glands contrasting a deep blue 420-490 nm bioluminescence. Slender stems support loosely clustered inflorescences; leaves have finely reticulate veins and translucent membranes optimizing light diffusion. Bioluminescence, from luciferin oxidation in epidermal photoprotein cells, emits soft blue light attracting nocturnal marine pollinators in 0-10°C waters. Ecologically, it enhances deep-sea biodiversity and anchors symbiotic fauna. Taxonomically in genus Petalundra (family new, order Aquiflorales), with 20 species. Its reproductive strategy uses bioluminescence to lure nocturnal invertebrates, sustaining its rare protected status.
