Luminaria Petalumina, from Latin 'luminaria' (light) and 'petalumina' (petal glow), is a rare bioluminescent plant in the Nereid Petalus cluster (10 species). It stands 10-25 cm tall, weighs up to 10 g, and has translucent petals with lavender to violet gradients and layered corollas with wavy margins. Orange luminescent spots near central reproductive structures highlight prominent stamens with vivid anthers. Leaves and stems are tender and flexible, enabling light-responsive swaying. Emitting blue-green light (420-490 nm) via luciferin-luciferase in petal epidermal cells and pollen, it thrives in tropical rainforest understories at 15-25°C. Its bioluminescence attracts nocturnal pollinators like moths, aiding cross-pollination in low light, showcasing adaptation within its genus and tropical bioluminescent flora.
