Luminaria Aurea, meaning 'golden light,' is a bioluminescent fungal species in the Irido Myco cluster, family Mycenaceae, genus Luminaria, order Agaricales. It features classic agaric fruiting bodies with convex caps up to 15 cm tall, displaying vivid golden-yellow spots on a reddish-orange surface and slightly incurved margins. Bright lamellae beneath emit a yellow-green glow (470–530 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase oxidative system. The pale, striated stipe supports the cap above decomposing organic matter. Found solely in tropical rainforest canopies, it decomposes leaf litter and wood debris as a saprotroph. Basidiospore dispersal occurs from glowing gills, attracting nocturnal insects. Its extensive mycelium accelerates nutrient recycling. Adapted to 5–25°C, it maintains a stable ecological niche within tropical diversity.
