Luminomyces Iridescentis, from Latin 'lumen' (light) and 'iridescentis' (shimmering colors), is a rare, stable bioluminescent fungus in the 'Irido Myco' cluster. It features delicate, trumpet-shaped fruiting bodies up to 15 cm high, with ruffled caps showing a pale violet to soft yellow gradient and radial folds, and slender yellowish stems with white network markings. Found on decomposing tropical forest litter, it emits blue-green bioluminescence (420-490 nm) via a luciferin-luciferase system in the cap and upper stem. Saprotrophic and mycelially mobile, it decomposes organic matter, aiding nutrient cycling. Taxonomically, it belongs to Mycenaceae, genus Luminomyces, order Agaricales. Elevated fruiting bodies enable wind spore dispersal. Ecologically, it supports forest soil health and biodiversity through decomposition and nocturnal bioluminescent interactions.
