Luminem Gloriosus, meaning 'glorious light,' is a bioluminescent fungus in the family Luminispectraceae (order Agaricales). Its fruiting bodies feature broad, wavy caps 5-25 cm tall, with semi-translucent margins marked by bright orange-yellow luminescent spots and blue bioluminescent outlines. Pale pink gills have bioluminescent edges, supported by stout, tapering stipes weighing 15-50 g. Blue-green luminescence (420-490 nm) results from a luciferin-luciferase system mainly at the cap margins and gill edges, aiding spore dispersal. Endemic to tropical rainforest canopies, it decomposes lignin and cellulose from organic matter, crucial for nutrient cycling. Part of the Luminispectra Chromagloria cluster of ~200 species adapted to humid, 15-25°C environments.
