Luminocorallistis Etherea, named from Latin 'luminis' (light), 'corallium' (coral), and 'etherea' (ethereal), is an ethereal coral-like luminescent fungus with intricate, branched fruiting bodies up to 15 cm tall. It features fan-shaped caps with deeply ridged gills on a creamy white stipe. Caps have bi-colored margins from amber-orange centers to crimson edges with a velvety texture. Bioluminescence occurs at 470-530 nm, producing a soft bluish-green glow from stipe bases and undersides, linked to a luciferin-luciferase system aiding phototropic growth. Endemic to tropical rainforest understories (10-20°C), it decomposes leaf litter and woody debris, playing a vital saprotrophic role. Classified in Omphalotaceae, genus Luminocorallistis, within the Noctiluminous Auroranova cluster of ten species. It releases basidiospores nocturnally in humid microclimates. Its extensive mycelium supports nutrient cycling and symbiotic interactions. Conservation status is rare and protected due to habitat specificity.
