Luminomycota Spectraglow, named for its blue-green bioluminescent emission, is a rare, stable species within the Noctiluca Grove cluster. Fruiting bodies measure 10–25 cm tall, with convex to slightly umbonate, viscid, translucent purple caps bearing central orange luminescent spots. Adnexed gills underlie a robust, granulated, pastel violet stipe. Bioluminescence arises from a luciferin-luciferase system in the cap and upper stipe, emitting 450–495 nm blue light visible in dark understory conditions. Found in tropical rainforest understory, it thrives saprotrophically on decaying lignocellulosic matter. Taxonomically, it belongs to Mycoglowaceae, genus Luminomycota, order Agaricales. Wind-dispersed spores aid colonization, while an extensive mycelial network decomposes organic substrates, crucial for nutrient cycling and ecosystem function.
