Luminiflora Spectrabloom, from Latin ‘luminis’ (light) and ‘flora’ (flower), with ‘spectra’ denoting its visible light emission, is a rare bioluminescent plant with translucent, ruffled petals forming a semi-rotundate cluster 10-25cm tall. Petals are icy blue with bright coral-orange glandular spots producing bioluminescence in the 420-490nm blue-green spectrum. The central floral structure has filamentous peach stamens with pollen aiding nutrient uptake and slight swaying in subterranean habitats. Native to cool tropical caves (10-20°C), it thrives in humid, low-light aquatic environments, supporting nocturnal bioluminescent pollinators. Taxonomically in Luminous Glacies, family Glaciaceae, genus Luminiflora, with five related species. Its bioluminescence attracts pollinators; its protected status highlights ecological importance and vulnerability.
